UVU’s Latino Legacy to present cultural dance festival | Arts & Culture
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
This is a news release from Utah Valley University.
Utah Valley University’s Latino Legacy, a 17-member, highly trained dance group, will perform two nights of entertainment through educational dance performances dubbed “Mi Tierra” that showcase cultures from across the Latin world Feb. 17-18. The Mi Tierra performances begin each night at 7 p.m. in the Ragan Theater in the Sorensen Student Center. Cost is $4 for students and $5 for non-students and can be purchased at the door.
The Mi Tierra shows feature cultural dances not normally shared in Latino performances. There will be dances from the cultures of Mexico (salsa), Peru (fetejo), Columbia (cumbia), Venezuela (joropo) and the Dominican Republic (merengue.) Each performance is enhanced with a unique blend of educational information explaining the history and importance of the dance to its culture.
UVU Latino Legacy was established in 2009, and is patterned after its sister dance company, the Polynesian Legacy. Besides bringing awareness about the Latino community through its cultural dances, Latino Legacy’s dancers also conduct academic workshops.
